MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team took down the Reddies of HSU Saturday afternoon at home by a final score of 82-72.

 

• UAM jumps to 9-5 (4-4 GAC) on the season.
• HSU drops to 7-7 (2-6 GAC) this year. 
  
   

• Tyrin Jones:  20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
• Karim Mawuenyega:  19 points, 4 assists
• Derylton Hill:  15 points, 13 rebounds
  
   

• This match-up saw a back-and-forth battle to start the opening half, until the Weevils generated a small run after a Mawuenyega three put UAM up 16-8 with just under 13:00 minutes left. 
• The Reddies took over the lead as the first half progressed after a pair of made free throws gave the visitors the 22-18 advantage. 
• A fast-break layup with under a minute remaining by HSU gave Henderson State the 35-34 lead over UAM, heading into the locker room at halftime.
  
   

• Arkansas-Monticello came out firing to start the second half of play with a 15-2 run over five minutes to put the Weevils out in front, 49-37. 
• Henderson State would come as close as trailing by one point after a made three-pointer to put the score at 63-62 in favor of UAM.
• Mawuenyega accounted for eight straight points down the final stretch of this contest, and Jones would seal the game off with a steal that led to a fast-break layup for the 82-72 GAC victory. 
   

• The Weevils return to action next on Tuesday, January 16 as UAM faces rival Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
