OBU DEFEATS @UAMHOOPS IN FINAL SECONDS

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team fell to Ouachita Baptist Saturday evening at home, by a final score of 72-70.

  • UAM drops to 15-10 (10-9 GAC) this year.
  • The Tigers jump to 11-13 (9-10 GAC) on the season.

  • Arkansas-Monticello jumped out to a 7-1 lead over OBU with made shots from Hill and Karim Mawuenyega over the first three minutes of play. 
  • The Tigers went on to claim the lead with just under 15 minutes left in the opening half, and would not surrender that advantage throughout the remainder of the period.
  • Ouachita took a 34-32 advantage into the locker room at the half, but not before UAM saw a momentum swing in its' favor with three-pointers from Jackson and Karim, along with made free throws from Jones.

  • OBU controlled the tempo of the second half early on, surging ahead to their largest lead of the game at 48-37 with just over 16 minutes left in regulation.
  • The Weevils were not done however, as a 9-0 run from UAM, featuring back-to-back- three-pointer's from Mawuenyega, and Jackson put the home squad right back in the game. 
  • Arkansas-Monticello would not see another lead in this contest however until there were just 17 seconds remaining, as UAM trailed OBU 69-67, and a made three from Keelin Jackson gave the Weevils the 70-69 advantage.
  • Ouachita however knocked down a three with just seven seconds left in the ballgame, and UAM could not hit the game winner on the next possession, which saw OBU take the game at 72-70 by the final buzzer.

  • UAM will face rival Southern Arkansas next on Tuesday, February 20 in Monticello inside of Steelman Field House. Game-time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in what will be the final home game for the Weevils in the 2017-18 season.
