@UAMHOOPS FALLS TO ARKANSAS TECH ON THE ROAD

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was taken down on the road by the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech Saturday afternoon, 88-73.

  • The Weevils finish the regular season at 17-11 (12-10 GAC) overall.
  • ATU ends the regular season at 18-10 (12-10 GAC).
     
  • Senior Derylton Hill became the 26th overall player in UAM Men's Basketball history to score over 1,000 points within their career, as Hill scored 25 on the day.

  • The Weevils and the Wonder Boys battled for any advantage early on in this match-up, until UAM begin to build a small lead with help from Karim Mawuenyega and Troy Thomas for the 18-12 lead. 
  • Arkansas Tech knocked down a three-pointer with 02:21 left in the opening period, putting the score at 37-34, and neither team was able to score again for the remaining time heading into the break. 
  • Both Goosby, and Hill finished in double-digit scoring in the first half of play with 11 points, and 10 points respectively.

  • These two squads traded leads throughout the beginning of the second half, until an ATU made three-pointer with just over 12 minutes to play, gave the Wonder Boys the 55-53 advantage. 
  • Arkansas-Monticello unfortunately could not recover for the remainder of the second period, seeing Arkansas Tech jump out to as much as a 19 point lead to win this conference contest at 88-73 by the final buzzer. 
  • The Weevils finished the second half shooting a solid 57 percent overall, however the Wonder Boys shot 70 percent, 21-for-30, in the second period to take this game over UAM.

  • Arkansas-Monticello will next head to the Great American Conference Championship Tournament beginning Thursday, March 1 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where the Weevils await the final season standings to see who their opponent will be.
