@UAMHOOPS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN FINAL SECONDS

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team were edged by the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State at home Thursday night, 69-68.

  • Northwestern shot out of the gate offensively to begin this match-up, generating a 14-3 run over the Weevils during the first five minutes of play.
  • The Weevils closed the gap midway through the first period at 19-16 after a Goosby made free throw. 
  • The Rangers controlled the pace of the game down the stretch in the first half, leading UAM 40-31 heading into the locker room at halftime.

  • NWOSU continued to apply pressure to Arkansas-Monticello in the second half, seeing its largest lead at 12 points with 14:21 left the play in the game. 
  • The Weevils would not go away however, cutting the visiting lead down to just four points with six minutes remaining after a Troy Thomas layup. 
  • Arkansas-Monticello had an opportunity to tie this contest up with just 1:33 left to play, however a missed free throw gave the Rangers an opening to head to the charity stripe themselves and knock down a pair of free throws.
  • The Weevils answered back with two made free throws from Goosby to put the score at 69-68 in favor of NWOSU, and after forcing a turnover with just 24 seconds, UAM earned an opportunity for the win. Unfortunately the last second shot from Keelin Jackson rattled in-and-out and Northwestern claimed the victory.
