UAM falls in five sets at SWOSU

The UAM volleyball team fell in a five-set match at Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday in Weatherford, Oklahoma. After dropping the first two sets, the Blossoms made quite a comeback to knot the game up, but lost in the final set, 15-7.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell in a five-set match at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday in Weatherford, Oklahoma. After dropping the first two sets, the Blossoms made quite a comeback to knot the game up, but lost in the final set, 15-7.
 
UAM used a .400 hitting percentage in the third set to propel them to a comeback in sets three and four.
 
After losing the first two sets, the Blossoms were really in control for most of set three. UAM went on a few 3-0 runs including the final stretch to win the set. With the score at 22-19, Leslie Polanco hammered home a kill, and SWOSU tallied back-to-back attack errors, as UAM won set three, 25-19.
 
UAM made things tighter battling it out with Southwestern in set four. The biggest lead for either team in the set was no more than three points. MarKayla Dickie put the set to rest however tallying UAM's last two kills of the set on assists from Jessica Mahan and Katie Pearson.
 
The Bulldogs came out firing though in the final set gathering an early lead, and winning it, 15-7.
 
With the loss, the Blossoms drop to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in league games, while SWOSU improves to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in league games.
 
Polanco paced the UAM attack with 21 kills and a solid .327 hitting percentage.
 
Halli Lambert and Dickie were second and third in the UAM attack with Lambert tallying 16 kills and Dickie recording 15.
 
Pearson was outstanding providing most of the distribution registering a season-high 51 assists.
 
On defense, Mahan tallied the team-high 27 digs while Polanco managed 21.
 
Zealia Kleitz totaled six blocks leading the way for the Blossoms.

UAM will continue its tour of the Great American Conference opponents in Oklahoma when it heads to Alva for a matchup at Northwestern Oklahoma State. First serve is scheduled for noon.
