SEARCY, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball team lost both matches at the Harding University Volleyball Tournament in Searcy, Arkansas on Saturday. After dropping match one to No. 17 Rockhurst University, UAM lost in five sets to the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
UAM faced nationally ranked, Rockhurst in match one and struggled to get much going against the tough opponent, losing in straight sets.
In match two, the Weevils battled to the fifth set, but lost to the Miners, 15-7 in the final set, losing 3-2.
With the loses, the Arkansas at Monticello is now, 3-9.
MATCH ONE
UAM was shut down in the first two sets losing, 25-14, and 25-13. However, the Weevils battled in the third set, but fell down the stretch, 25-23.
MarKayla Dickie was the team's top attacker totaling eight kills while
Leslie Polanco had double-digit numbers in assists with 16.
Jessica Mahan and Polanco added 11 and 10 digs defensively, while
Halli Lambert posted 6.
In the blocking category,
Taylor Calhoun continued to be tough at the net tallying three.
MATCH TWO
The second contest was a different story for UAM battling in every set. After losing the first, 25-17, it won sets three (26-24) and four (25-23). Missouri S&T snagged the fourth set by just four points, and UAM could not come back to win the final set, falling 15-7.
Dickie led in kills with 11, while Lambert tallied 10.
The Weevils tallied a few big service aces from Lambert (3), Polanco (3) and Mahan (2). Perhaps one of the biggest, was Polanco's ace to win the second set by two, and change the momentum of the contest.
Defensively, Mahan posted 28 digs while Lambert added 15 and Polanco recorded 11.

UAM get ready for its first home match of the season when it hosts Ouachita Baptist University at Steelman Fieldhouse on Tuesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
