UAM set for big GAC contest against Southern Nazarene

The UAM women’s basketball team will host Southern Nazarene in GAC play on Thursday night from the Steelman Field House in Monticello, Arkansas.

SCOUTING THE BLOSSOMS
Last time out, the Blossoms defeated Ouachita Baptist at home in a GAC contest, 69-59, while SNU beat East Central University at home, 75-64. Both games were played last Saturday.
 
With the win on Saturday, the Blossoms are now 8-1 in home games, which is an impressive record at the Steelman Field House.
 
This season, UAM is averaging 67.8 points per game while holding opponents to a GAC-best 58.1 points per contest, which is good for a +9.7-scoring margin. UAM is shooting 42.3 percent from the field and opponents are shooting 38.6 percent. From behind the arc, the Blossoms are making 27.8 percent of their three's while opponents shoot 31.1 percent.
 
UAM averages 38.6 rebounds per contest while holding opponents to the second-lowest amount in the conference of 33.9 for a margin of +4.7.
 
UAM also forces 20.8 turnovers per game carrying a 3.6-turnover margin while scoring 19.9 points off turnovers this season. The Blossoms average 10.8 steals per contest and 1.9 blocks per game defensively.
 
Berniezha Tidwell and Mackenzie Tillman have continued to be two of the team's top players. Tidwell averages 16.7 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game and 3.8 assists per contest while totaling 47 steals on defense and blocking five shots. Tillman is scoring 10.2 points per contest shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from the three-point line.
 
Mekaylan Hicks is right behind Tillman as she scores 9.1 points per game while ranking second to Tidwell in rebounding getting 5.3 rebounds per contest. She also carries the highest field-goal percentage on the roster at 56.3 percent.
 
Kayla Bradley has continued to be one of the more consistent guards in the league scoring 7.9 points per game and averaging 2.4 assists per game.
 
Jaida Muhammad has been a key contributor as well averaging 6.7 points per game leading the team in three-pointers shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM
The Crimson Storm enter this game having won four consecutive games dating back to January 9th. In that stretch, Southern Nazarene has beaten Arkansas Tech, Harding, Oklahoma Baptist and East Central
 
SNU is a very good defensive team as well holding opponents to score 59.2 points per game while scoring 68.5 percent of their own.
 
The Crimson Storm are shooting 43.6 percent from the floor while opponents shoot just 36.5 percent from the floor. SNU is also outrebounding opponents by +2.3 grabbing 35.6 boards per game while opponents snag just 33.3.
 
SNU has a trio of players averaging at least 11.0 points per game in Sonia Sarda (13.1 ppg), Jaycee Soap (13.1 ppg) and Alexus Jones (11.1 ppg).
 
Sarda is also shooting 43.5 percent from the floor while averaging 5.6 assists per game and 3.4 rebounds per contest. She has also totaled 32 steals on defense.
 
Jones has been the team's top rebounder averaging 8.1 boards per game.
