MONTICELLO, Ark. – The 24th ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team will open its 2020 campaign on Friday when it plays the first of three games at the Houston Astros Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. UAM's first a matchup will be against No. 23 the Colorado School of Mines on Friday at 10 a.m. On Saturday, the Weevils will play Flagler College at 5 p.m., and on Sunday, they will conclude their trip with a 5 p.m. contest against No. 19 Millersville University.

WEEVIL NOTES
The Weevils come into their season-opener after an impressive 2019 campaign in which they finished 34-16 overall, won Great American Conference Regular Season Championship and made it to the NCAA Regionals.

Due to their success a season ago, the Weevils were picked 24th in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason poll and picked to win the GAC in the conference's preseason coaches poll.

UAM returns 22 players from a year ago including key hitters in
David Reyna,
Cade Thompson and
Andrew Piraino. Reyna was First Team All-GAC and had the team's highest average hitting .393 (57-for-145) with seven home runs and 34 RBI. He also led the team in stolen bases (19) and on-base-percentage (.464). Thompson recorded GAC Freshman of the Year honors is back after finishing behind Reyna batting .378 (65-for-172) tallying 10 stolen bases. Piraino rounded out the top three UAM batters with a .359 (52-for-145) average with six home runs and 38 RBI.

On the bump,
Matt Lundh and
Ojani Chacon come back this season after impressive 2019 campaigns. Lundh was 8-1 with a 3.39 ERA (27 ER in 71.2 IP) earning GAC Pitcher of the Year recognition. Chacon was solid out of the bullpen for the Weevils leading the team in saves (7) and recording a 4-0 record with a 3.83 ERA (21 ER in 49.1 IP).

OREDIGGERS NOTES
The Orediggers were known for their pitching staff a season ago and have key returning hurlers in Walter Pennington and Tyler Blomster. Pennington went 10-3 overall in 14 starts with a 3.51 ERA (36 ER in 92.1 IP). Blomster tallied 10 wins and three losses in 15 appearances and had a 4.30 ERA (42 ER in 88.0 IP). The pair were named to the NCBWA's All-South-Central Region Preseason team.

Offensively, Colo. School of Mines returns just two of their important bats from a year ago. Derek Daly batted .316 (48-for-152) with 18 home runs and 48 RBI. He also recorded the third-best OPS on the team in 2019 at 1.112. The other key batter for CSM is Trevor Howard who hit .286 (28-for-98) with five home runs and 33 RBI.

SAINTS NOTES
The Saints return a pair of All-Peach Belt Conference performers in Aaron Anderson and Sean Lawlor. Anderson hit .343 (69-for-201) with four home runs and 31 RBI. He also had the tallied the team's highest on-base percentage of.435. Lawlor hit .308 (56-for-182) with team-highs in home runs (7) and RBI (44).

Flagler brings back one of their main relievers from 2019 in Ethan Jones who finished the year with five saves in 17 appearances tallying a 4.35 ERA (15 ER in 31.0 IP).

MARAUDERS NOTES
Millersville returns a pair of batters their top hitters from a season ago in Luke Trainer and Eric Callahan. Trainer hit .326 (56-for-172) with seven home runs and 42 RBI and was sixth on the team in slugging percentage in .442. Callahan batted .314 (53-for-169) with 40 RBI and a .491 slugging percentage.

On the bump, the Marauders get back their third-best starter from 2019 in Drew Miller, who finished with a 6-1 record, a 3.02 ERA (19 ER in 56.2 IP) while punching out 46 batters.
