BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Arkansas on Saturday. After falling in game one against Central Missouri University, 11-5, the Blossoms then lost their second game, 17-11, in nine innings against Missouri Southern State.
GAME ONE: UCM 11, UAM 5
The Jennies got their offense started early putting up a six-spot on the Blossoms in the top of the first. They then added two more runs on a homer in the top of the seventh so UAM needed to respond.
In the bottom half of the second, UAM did answer with a run.
Haley Godeaux smacked a homer over the fence to make it 8-1 Jennies.
UCM would later plate three more runs in the top of the fourth and pretty much put the game out of reach.
The Blossoms did chip away at the deficit with four runs scored in the fifth and another in the seventh, but it was not enough as they fell, 11-5.
Alexa Bradley (W, 1-0) got the win for the Jennies hurling the complete game allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out five.
Alexis Pevehouse (L, 0-2) took the loss going 5.0 innings allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and three walks while punching out five.
GAME TWO: MSSU 17, UAM 11 (9 Innings)
Game two proved to be quite the adventure going nine long innings. Missouri Southern State got out in front early with four runs in the first and second.
UAM answered in the second with a two-run homer and a two-RBI double from
Paige Eddington and Katelyn Stamper to tie the game, 4-4.
After a run in the third from the Lions, the Blossoms took a four-run lead in the bottom of the inning. Eddington smaked a two-RBI double and Cornell would later double to score three more making it 9-5 in favor of the Blossoms.
Missouri Southern State later tied the game with a couple of runs in the fifth and seventh to send us to extras.
Both teams plated runs in the eighth inning due to the international tie-breaker putting a runner at second, but MSSU then exploded for seven runs in the top of the ninth to go ahead, 17-10.
UAM plated a run on a Godeaux RBI single, but it was not enough as the Blossoms fell, 17-11.
Mikaela Cox (W, 1-2) got the win for the Lions going 6.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on one hit and two walks.
Pevehouse (L, 0-3) took the loss going 2.0 innings allowing eight runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks.

UAM will conclude the tournament with a pair of games Sunday starting with the University of Missouri-St. Louis and 12 p.m. and finishing with Missouri Western State University at 4 p.m.
