The UAM softball team split its final day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic on Sunday. After an 8-4 loss in game one against Missouri-St. Louis, the Blossoms won game two against Missouri Western State, 3-0.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split its final day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic on Sunday. After an 8-4 loss in game one against the University Missouri-St. Louis, the Blossoms won game two against Missouri Western State University, 3-0.

Prior to the win, UAM had lost six straight going back to last week at the A&M Commerce/UT-Tyler Invite.

Much of the Blossoms struggles have been pitching thus far in 2020, so it was good to see the staff earn a shutout victory in game two.

With the split, UAM is now 2-7 overall and will begin conference play next week.

GAME ONE: Mo.-St. Louis 8, UAM 4
The Blossoms did smack the ball around a bit in the first game of Sunday combining for 11 hits, but they surrendered eight runs including six in the third in the loss.

UAM got things going in the first inning on offense when Caroline Tedder homered to score Haley Cornell making it 2-0 Blossoms.

In the third, MSL answered with a six spot thanks to four hits.

The Blossoms did respond in the fifth inning when Mahayla Mitchell doubled to score Sierra Gasca to make it 6-3.

However, in the sixth, the Tritons tallied a pair to put the game pretty much out of reach. UAM added a run in the bottom frame, but it was not enough as they fell, 8-4.

Jenna Towle (W, 1-1) got the win going the full 7.0 innings allowing four runs on 11 hits and one walk while she struck out nine.

Hayley McGhee (L, 0-2) took the loss going 2.2 innings allowing six runs on four hits and two walks.

GAME TWO: Mo. Western 0, UAM 3
The Blossoms got some solid pitching from Alexis Pevehouse out of the bullpen while also registering some clutch hits en route to the game two win.

Both teams barely threatened until the top of the third. With a pair of runners on for Mo. Western, Pevehouse entered and worked out of danger.

An inning later, the Blossoms tacked on their runs. Cornell stroked a one-out double and Tedder later reached putting a pair of runners on. UAM then loaded the bases and walked Mackenzie Rodgers walked allowing Cornell to score. Sydney Webster then came in to pinch-hit and she stroked a single pushing two runs across to make it a 3-0 UAM lead.

The Griffons put a couple runners on in the next few innings, but Pevehouse worked out of trouble as the Blossoms went on to win, 3-0.

Pevehouse (W, 1-3) got the win going 4.2 innings allowing just two hits and one walk while punching out two.

Olivia Goodale (L, 0-2) took the loss hurling 6.0 innings surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks while punching out three.
