UAM gets two more wins, earns four-game sweep of OBU

The UAM softball team earned a pair of victories over Ouachita Baptist on Sunday from the Alvy Early Softball Field in Monticello, Arkansas. With the wins, the Blossoms swept the Tigers in four games starting the season 4-0 in GAC play.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team earned a pair of victories over Ouachita Baptist University on Sunday from the Alvy Early Softball Field in Monticello, Arkansas. With the wins, the Blossoms swept the Tigers in four games starting the season 4-0 in Great American Conference play.
 
In game one, UAM slapped 14 hits around the field and tallied eight runs. They got some solid pitching out of Hayley McGhee (W, 2-2) to earn an 8-4 victory.
 
As for game two, the Blossoms needed some extra innings to earn the win, but a walk-off single with two outs by Sydney Webster in the bottom of the eighth helped them earn the four-game sweep. In the circle, Kaylee Freeman (W, 2-1) finished off the game started by Raegyn Parrish (1-1) and got the win.
 
The Blossoms are now 6-7 overall and 4-0 in league games.
 
GAME ONE: OBU 4, UAM 8
The Blossoms scattered runs across in several innings including two in the first. In the bottom of the first, Katelynn Stamper scored on a fielder's choice and Haley Godeaux hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Kara DeBruin.
 
After the Tigers added a run in the third, UAM answered in the bottom of the fourth with a couple of runs scored by Godeaux and Webster to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
OBU chipped away again in the fifth after the Blossoms added two more in the fourth, but they then put the game out of reach in the sixth on a two-RBI single from Caroline Tedder in the bottom of the sixth. UAM slammed the door in the seventh and got the win.
 
McGhee surrendered two runs on five hits and one walk to earn the win.
 
On offense, Tedder tallied four RBI going three-for-four.
 
GAME TWO: OBU 4, UAM 5 (8 innings)
UAM and OBU were locked in a tighter second game. The Tigers struck for the first run in the first inning and added two more in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.
 
The Blossoms did not get their first hit until the bottom of the third when DeBruin homered (2) right-center to make it 3-1.
 
The following inning, UAM made it 3-2 on another homer, this time by Tedder (3).
 
Ouachita tallied an unearned run in the top of the fifth to go up, 4-2, but Chelsea Anderson knotted the game up in the bottom frame with a two-run homer (1) to left.
 
The Tigers and Blossoms were in a stalemate until the eighth. After Cornell reached on an error to start the inning off, Mahayla Mitchell came in to pinch-run. With two outs, Webster singled to left on a 1-1 pitch allowing Mitchell to come around and score for a walk-off single. UAM went on to win, 5-4.
 
Freeman got the win hurling 4.0 innings allowing one unearned run on three hits while punching out one.
 
UP NEXT
The Blossoms will continue conference play on Friday and Saturday next week when they travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma to play Southwestern Oklahoma State University. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
