Blossoms split day one at SWOSU

The UAM softball team split its first day at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma. After losing in five innings to the Lady Bulldogs, 11-3, in game one, the Blossoms made quick work of SWOSU in their own way, winning in five innings, 9-0, in game two.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. –  The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split its first day at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. After losing in five innings to the Lady Bulldogs, 11-3, in game one, the Blossoms made quick work of SWOSU in their own way, winning in five innings, 9-0, in game two.
 
UAM mustered just six hits in the first game and allowed the Lady Bulldogs to earn 11 runs on 13 hits of their own in the first contest.
 
In game two, they answered in a similar way stroking eight hits and crossing the plate for nine runs while shutting down the Lady Bulldogs offense.
 
With the split, UAM is now 7-8 overall and 5-1 in conference games while SWOSU is 3-11 overall and 2-4 in league games.
 
GAME ONE: UAM, 3 – SWOSU, 11
The Lady Bulldogs plated four runs in the first inning off a home run and an error.
 
The Blossoms responded in the top of the second with a pair of runs. Hannah Holdbrook doubled to center to score Haley Godeaux, and Chelsea Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
 
SWOSU then responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning and then added four in the bottom of the third to make it 9-2. They later made it 10-2 in the bottom of the fourth and the Blossoms needed runs to keep away from the run rule.
 
Caroline Tedder (4) homered to make it 10-3 in the top of the fifth, but in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Bulldogs added a run to give SWOSU the win in five innings, 11-3.
 
Hayley McGhee (L, 2-3) took the loss going 2.2 innings allowing nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out four.
 
Alisa Friesen (W, 2-3) got the win for the Lady Bulldogs going 3.0 innings surrendering 1 run on three hits and a walk while punching out three.
 
GAME TWO: UAM, 9 – SWOSU, 0
As game two rolled around, the Blossoms tried to get their bats alive, and they did.
 
In the second, UAM struck first on a wild pitch to score Sydney Webster.
 
The Blossoms later tacked on four runs in the top of the third after a two-RBI singled from Godeaux and a two-RBI double from Webster.
 
In the fourth, Webster stayed hot clubbing a three-run homer (1) to left to give the Blossoms an 8-0 lead.
 
UAM added one more unearned run in the fifth and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the inning to snag the win.
 
Alexis Pevehouse (W, 2-3) got the win going 5.0 innings allowing just four hits and a walk while punching out one.
 
Miranda Grover (L, 0-4) took the loss going 2.0 innings surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out one.
 
UP NEXT
The Blossoms will finish off their four-game road series at SWOSU on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
