UAM primed for home weekend series against SWOSU

The UAM baseball team will continue GAC play this weekend when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State from Weevils Field in Monticello, Arkansas on Friday and Saturday. The Weevils will play game one on Friday at 2 p.m. and will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team will continue Great American Conference play this weekend when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State University from Weevils Field in Monticello, Arkansas on Friday and Saturday. The Weevils will play game one on Friday at 2 p.m. and will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.

WEEVIL NOTES
UAM is coming off another conference series victory against a conference opponent in Ouachita Baptist University over the weekend. The Weevils grabbed wins in the first and second games, but lost the final game. Thus far in 2020, UAM is 4-2 against league opponents.
 
At the plate, the Weevils are hitting .233 (95-for-407) in 2020 and have a quartet of players hitting at least .280 in Jordan Johnson, Grant Shepherd, Cade Thompson and Audy Clary.
 
Johnson has been the team's top hitter with a .373 (18-for-48) average with six home runs and 14 RBI. Shepherd is also over .300 with a .319 (15-for-47) average with a home run, a triple and a double and six RBI.
 
Cade Thompson and Audy Clary both come in batting .286 (10-for-35). Thompson leads the team in doubles with five while Clary has worked many counts sporting the team-lead in walks with eight.
 
On the mound, UAM has been exceptional so far in 2020 with a 2.71 team ERA (41 ER in 106.0 IP).
 
The main starters have been Matt Lundh and Livan Cordova. Lundh is still searching for his first victory, but has a 0.79 ERA (2 ER in 17.2 IP) leading the team in strikeouts with 23. He is also holding opponents to hit just .119 against him. Cordova is 2-1 in four starts with a 1.91 ERA (6 ER in 22.0 IP).
 
Out of the bullpen, River Hunt and Ojani Chacon have combined for a 1.76 ERA (7 ER in 27.0 IP) with a pair of saves.

BULLDOGS NOTES
SWOSU has been off to a solid start to begin the season carrying a team .356 (126-for-354) with a couple of key batters hitting well over .400
 
Alex Bedard leads the way with batting .528 (19-for-36) with a home run and three RBI. He leads the team in stolen bases at the top of the Bulldogs lineup 10.
 
Drew White is hitting .455 (20-for-44) with seven doubles and 15 RBI carrying a .659 slugging percentage.
 
Taylan Mullins-Ohm is the team's top run producer driving in 17 runs with five home runs.
 
On the hill, SWOSU has a 3.29 team ERA allowing 30 ER in 82.0 IP with 76 strikeouts.
 
Jackson Dietel and Carter Hogan have been pretty impressive for the Bulldogs. Dietel is sporting a 1.59 ERA (3 ER in 17.0 IP) and is 2-0 with 12 punchouts, while Hogan is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (3 ER in 15.0 IP) and 10 K's.

UAM will continue conference play on Tuesday with a mid-week matchup against Ouachita Baptist at Weevils Field in Monticello, Arkansas at 2 p.m.
