ALVA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team dropped its final contest at Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday from Alva, Oklahoma, 16-12. With the loss, the Weevils were swept by the Rangers and now drop to 5-7 in Great American Conference games.
 
It was a high-scoring affair on Saturday as the Weevils tried to make a comeback with the Rangers ahead for most of the game.
 
UAM opened scoring with a two-run homer from Aaron Gaela to score Audy Clary in the top of the second. However, the Rangers responded with a three-run bottom frame.
 
Later, with NWOSU ahead, 7-2, UAM cut into the deficit with a four-run fifth thanks to an RBI double from Hudson Hopkins, an RBI single from Jordan Johnson, a sac fly from Andrew Piraino and an RBI double by Dylan Borman.
 
In the following frame, the Rangers extended their lead 10-6. They later added runs in the sixth and seventh to make it 12-8.
 
The Weevils did cut back into it though with three run in the top of the eighth, but NWOSU extended the lead with four in the bottom frame. They would go on to win the game, 16-12.
 
Gaela and Hopkins paced the Weevil offense with seven of their 10 RBI in the game. Gaela hit a pair of homers in the contest as well, while Hopkins drilled one.
 
Connor Wilkerson (L, 1-2) took the loss, going 1.2 innings allowing six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one.

UAM will host Delta State University for a mid-week game on Wednesday from Weevils Field in Monticello, Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
