MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's and Women's basketball team both came out with a win tonight over Arkansas Baptist College in their first duo home night of the season; this being the home opener for the men's team. Both teams held the Buffaloes with style, eventually taking the victories, 96-52 and 76-51.
UAM Blossoms vs. Arkansas Baptist College
The UAM Blossoms went into Thursday's game after not playing like the team that we all know they are capable of the first three games. As the game began, we could see the confidence slowly beginning to build on top of itself as UAM kept putting points on the board. Having a home crowd advantage makes a difference and throughout the night, the atmosphere grew more and more.
In the first quarter, the Arkansas Baptist team kept up with the blossoms well for the first 5 minutes of play. That was when UAM began to find their comfort zone. The Blossoms would keep pushing throughout the remainder of the quarter, heading into the second with a 21-12 lead.
The second and third quarters were more or less a continuation of the Blossom dominance as the Buffaloes couldn't keep up. Monticello would out-score Arkansas Baptist 39-21 throughout the two, heading into the fourth quarter with a comfortable 60-33 lead.
The fourth quarter proved to go the Buffaloes way as they out-scored UAM 18-16, but were unable to make up enough ground to beat the Blossoms. Monticello would win the game 76-51.
Taylor Flores led the charge posting 21 points and 6 rebounds.
Trinity McDowell also finished in double digits tallying 13.
Defensively, the Blossoms registered four steals and twelve blocks while forcing ABC into 15 turnovers.
UAM Weevils vs. Arkansas Baptist College
The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's basketball team came out strong as they take down Arkansas Baptist College Saturday. The Weevils held the Buffaloes the entire match, increasing their dominance each step of the way, eventually taking the victory, 96-52.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair as the lead changed hands ten times before the Weevils finally found some momentum. With the score tied at 30, and six minutes left on the clock, UAM would go on a 10-0 run to finish out the half. The Weevils would head to the locker room with a 40-30 lead over the Arkansas Baptist team.
Something must have sparked the flame in the locker room as the Weevils would come out for the second half with a hunger that wasn't there the first half. UAM would out-score themselves 56-40 as the finished out the second half, and best ABC 56-22 for the second half. Inevitably the Weevils would take the victory 96-52.
Richard Feagin Jr. led the charge posting 26 points and 3 rebounds.
