ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Arkansas softball team earned a twin bill split on the road against Ouachita Baptist Sunday. The Blossoms got the offense rolling in the first contest of the day taking game one 7-3, but were unable to carry the momentum into the series finale falling 11-3 in game two of the doubleheader.
UAM goes to 8-20 overall on the season and 7-17 in Great American Conference games while OBU moves to 15-13 on the year and 13-11 in league play.
GAME ONE: UAM 7, OBU 3
UAM got the scoring going early after three of the first four hitters reached to load the bases leading to a two-run single by Katelynn Stamper that scored Bailey Camp and Sierra Gasca.
OBU responded in the bottom of the frame scoring one run on three hits against UAM starter Jamie Franks.
The Blossoms expanded their lead in the fourth as Madison Morrissey picked up an RBI-single before Madison Gardiner worked a two-out bases loaded walk that brought home Morrissey. Alexis Pevehouse crossed the plate on a wild pitch to push the score to 5-1.
Franks worked scoreless frames in the third and fourth, but OBU managed to bring two runs around to score in the fifth cutting the Blossoms' advantage to 5-3.
UAM tacked on another run in the top of the sixth on a RBI-single by Haley Cornell.
Maddie Chalenburg took over on the bump for the Blossoms in the bottom of the frame working a 1-2-3 inning.
UAM added one more run in the finale inning as Morrissey slapped an RBI-single through the left side to score Hannah Holdbrook.
Chalenburg returned to the rubber to put the Tigers down in order in the bottom of the seventh and give UAM the 7-3 win.
Seven different Blossoms collected at least one hit in the contest with Haley Godeaux leading the way going 3-for-4. Morrissey had a multi-hit performance while driving in two runs.
Franks (W, 4-6) picked up the win after allowing three runs, just one earned, on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
Chalenburg (S, 1) earned the save dealing 2.0 scoreless innings and striking out two.
Nicole Arreola (L, 4-8) took the loss surrendering five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.
GAME TWO: OBU 11, UAM 3
The script was flipped for the Blossoms in game two as OBU jumped on starter Pevehouse to score five runs on four hits in the first inning. UAM turned to Chalenburg out of the bullpen to record the final two outs of the frame.
UAM responded in the top half of the second when Grace Neal led off the frame with a solo home run to left field.
The Tigers tacked on another run in the bottom of the second, but again the Blossoms answered in the next frame with a run on a sacrifice fly by Cornell.
Chalenburg ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth as OBU managed to score two runs on four hits, but she avoided any further damage leaving the bases loaded to end the frame.
Gasca brought home one run for the Blossoms in the top of fifth knocking an RBI-single into left field to cut the UAM deficit to 8-3.
UAM turned to the bullpen again to start the bottom of the fifth bringing in Sam Stephens, but OBU took advantage of three hits and a costly error to score two runs in the frame. The Tigers added one more in the bottom of the sixth to close out the contest and hand the Blossoms the 11-3 loss.
Pevehouse (L, 1-4) ended with the loss surrendering five runs on four hits while recording only one out.
Chalenburg pitched 3.2 innings in relief giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out six.
Stephens worked 1.2 innings allowing three runs, just one earned, on four hits.
Nikki Schneider (W, 6-3) earned the win giving up three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings on the bump.

UAM stays on the road in GAC play traveling to face Southern Nazarene for a three-game series Friday and Saturday. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
