BETHANY, Okla. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team drops the series opener on the road against Southern Nazarene Saturday. The Blossoms attempted to rally in their final at bat bringing the tying run to the plate, but ultimately fell short losing game one 3-1.
UAM falls to 8-21 overall on the season and 7-18 in Great American Conference play while SNU improves to 18-16 and 16-9.
Maddie Chalenburg got the start for the Blossoms in the circle and quickly worked two scoreless frames to begin the contest. Her third inning of work was not as smooth as SNU plated three runs on four hits to take the early lead.
The UAM offense struggled to get anything going at the plate only reaching base three times through the first six innings.
Chalenburg settled in for the Blossoms after the rocky third inning holding the Storm scoreless over her next three frames including working around a jam in the sixth with two on and one out to keep the score at 3-0.
The Blossoms found some life in the batter's box in the top of the seventh as Haley Cornell worked a one out walk before Chalenburg came in to pinch run. With two outs in the inning Haley Godeaux put UAM on the board with a double down the left field line to score Chalenburg, but that would be all the Blossoms would get in the frame falling 3-1 in game one of the series.
Chalenburg (L, 2-7) ended with the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in 6.0 innings in the circle.
Brooklyn Sparkman (W, 11-7) picked up the win pitching 6.0 scoreless innings for SNU.
Cassidy Davila (S, 1) earned the save despite giving up one run in her only inning of work.
