MONTICELLO, Ark. - Taylor Flores scored a career-high 36 points as the Blossoms fall to Oklahoma Baptist in their Great American Conference match-up on Saturday. Flores saw one of her most efficient games of the season, shooting 10-of-16 from the field, 9-13 from three and 7-8 from the free-throw line.
The sophomore from Auburn, Washington has elevated her game in a big way from beyond-the-arc. Sitting at first in the GAC and third in the nation for three-pointers with 54 made before Saturday's match, her now 63 made three-pointers could claim Flores the top spot in the country after this career performance. The Monticello shooter is averaging 16.7 points-per-game this season, with Saturday marking the seventh time she has scored more than 20 points for the Blossoms, and the ninth time to make 5-or-more threes.
In the first quarter, the Blossoms were quick to pull ahead, giving themselves an 8-3 lead. The Bison was quick to strike back, regaining the lead from UAM. Both teams shared a back-and-forth affair with the Blossoms coming out 6-16 for field goals and 4-10 on three pointers. Through their best efforts, the two teams would head into the second quarter with OBU on top.
In the second quarter the Blossoms made 40% of their attempted shots. The Bison defense would put up a fight, limiting UAM to only 11 field goal attempts on the quarter. The teams would finish the half and head to the locker rooms with OBU still on top.
The third quarter proved to be very similar to the second. UAM was able to put more shots in the air, going 5-16 on field goals and 1-4 on shots beyond the arc.
The fourth quarter showed a massive shift in momentum as UAM turned the tables on OBU, outscoring them by 4 points. The two teams would continue their conference battle, the Bison proving to have the match go their way as they would win the game 99-67 and the Blossoms fall to a 0-12 record in conference play.
Taylor Flores led the charge for the Blossoms, posting 36 points and 5 rebounds. Aeryn Hawkins also had double digits for the UAM offense, putting up 10 points of her own.
Defensively, the Blossoms registered two steals and one block while forcing OBU into 5 turnovers.
