UAM FALLS TO AUGUSTANA IN GAME 2 OF THE HOUSTON ASTROS WINTER INVITATIONAL

Box Score HOUSTON, Tex. – The Weevils came out on the wrong end of the barrel, as the Arkansas-Monticello baseball program was bested by Augustana, 13-4, in their second match-up of the Houston Astros Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park.
 
The loss drops Arkansas-Monticello to 2-2 on the season and gives the Weevils something to be hungry for as they head into game 3 Sunday morning.
 
Monticello was the first to score, putting up a run in the bottom of second inning as David Reyna hit a SAC fly to center field, scoring Clay Lockett. The Vikings would respond with two runs in the top of the fourth. The Weevils put together two more in the bottom half of the inning. Cade Thompson hit a rope through the 6-hole to score Grant Shepherd and Nick Fakouri to gain a 3-1 lead going into the fifth.

AU would strike again in the top of the inning, tacking on 2 more runs to tie the game back up at 3. They would score another run in the seventh and two more in the top of the eighth, making it a 6-3 ball game. The Weevils score their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, with the match remaining in Augustana's favor, 6-4. The Vikings would record 7 runs in the top of the ninth, extending their lead. UAM was unable to answer, finishing the game with AU on top, 13-4.
 
Cade Thompson led the offense, going 3-for-5 on the game. Thompson had two RBIs on the game.

Pitching Performances
The UAM pitching staff had its work cut out for them, totaling four different pitchers in the game. Spencer Johnston started on the mound, totaling 5.0 inning pitched with three runs allowed on seven hits. The right-hander stuck out four batters and had one walk.

Charles Peacock would enter the game in the bottom of the sixth, tallying 2.0 innings pitched with three runs allowed on three hits. Peacock also struck out four batters and had three walks.

Cameron Johnson entered the game in the bottom of the eighth, throwing 1.2 innings with 7 runs allowed on four hits. He would walk three batter and hit four.
