Box Score HOUSTON, Tex. – The Weevils finished up their final match of the Houston Winter Invitational on Sunday morning. The Arkansas-Monticello baseball program was bested by Maryville University, 12-2 as they close out the tournament at Minute Maid Park.
The loss drops Arkansas-Monticello to 2-5 on the season. The Weevils are sure to return home and build a new mindset as they open up GAC play next weekend.
Monticello was the first to score, putting up two runs in the top of the first inning.
Cade Thompson was walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error. He would eventually score off a
Reece Reading RBI fielder's choice.
Chase Cripps, who was also walked early in the inning, would also score off an RBI SAC fly to center field from
Orlando Arevalo.
The Saints would tie the game up in the bottom of the second inning. They wouldn't let Monticello score another run for the next five innings, but would tack on 10 additional runs of their own throughout the entirety of the match. The game would conclude in seven innings
Cade Thompson led the offense, going 2-for-3 on the game. Thompson had a run scored and a stolen base on the game.
Torrin Vaselenak hit a triple of his own in the seventh to center field.
Pitching Performances
The UAM pitching staff had its work cut out for them, totaling four different pitchers in the game.
Mason Philley started on the mound, totaling 5.0 inning pitched with five runs allowed on three hits. The left-hander stuck out nine batters in his outing.
Payton Mayatt would enter the game in the bottom of the sixth, tallying 1.0 innings pitched with four runs allowed on three hits. Peacock also struck out one batter and had one walk.
Rigell Robinson entered the game in the bottom of the seventh, only throwing 0.1 innings with 3 runs allowed on 2 hits as the final run of the game was scored.
The Weevils suffered from 10 errors during Sunday's match-up.
