RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Weevils Baseball team falls on the road to Arkansas Tech University in Game 1 of their Great American Conference series. Monticello was the first to score, but eventually fell in the first game of the series to the Wonder Boys, 8-4.
UAM was the first to put a run on the board, scoring a run in the top of the second.
Reece Reading scored on a
Nick Fakouri double into the right center gap.
ATU responded with a solo home run in the bottom half of he inning.
No runs were scored for the next four innings, until the Wonder Boys put up six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-1 lead.
The Weevils would score two runs in the top of the eighth as
Cade Thompson would score on an error and
Grant Jeffers scored on a
Nick Fakouri single to right field.
Jordan Johnson scored the final run of the ball game for UAM on a home run to left center.
Though the Weevils would put up a run in the final innings, they would fall to ATU, 8-4.
Pitching Performance
Derek Potts started on the mound for the Weevils, posting 6.1 innings, 8 strikeouts, and allowing 6 runs off 7 hits and 0 walks.
Trent Bunting entered the game in seventh, getting 1.0 inning thrown and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.
Jack Barna came into the game as the final pitcher of the match, finishing out the game with 0.2 innings pitched and no hits allowed.
Showcased Offense
Nick Fakouri - 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.
Cade Thompson - 2-for-3 with two walks ad a run scored.
Reece Reading - 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Jordan Johnson - Home run in the 9th.
The loss on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 5-11 on the season and 3-7 in GAC play.

The Weevils are back to work with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to finish out their three game series with Arkansas Tech University. The first game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
