Box Score 2 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello Baseball team splits the day with Arkansas Tech University on Sunday to close out their GAC weekend series. UAM would win the first game 11-4, and fall in the second match 4-2. The Weevils lose the weekend, GAC series 2-1.
Game 1
Arkansas Tech was the first to score in Game 1, putting a run on the board in the first.
UAM struggled to find their momentum early, but earned a run in top of the third as a
Cade Thompson single brought
Joe Brouilette home.
The Weevils picked it up in the fifth, scoring 4 runs.
Cade Thompson doubled to left field, scoring
Kyle Frame and Brouilette, and a
Grant Shepherd single up the middle scored both Thompson and
Jordan Johnson. Brouilette also scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.
ATU put up two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth.
Cade Thompson homered to right field and
BJ Lee scored on a throwing error in the seventh.
The final runs for Monticello came in the ninth inning as
BJ Lee crossed home on a SAC fly from
Nick Fakouri and a two run home run to left center for
Joe Brouilette.
Game 2
The second match of the day was a low scoring game for the Weevils as they were only able to put up two runs.
Tech was the first to score, putting up two runs in the third.
Monticello scored two runs in the fifth as
Hudson Hopkins scored on a
Cade Thompson single, and
Chase Cripps scored on a
Jordan Johnson ground out.
The Weevils were unable to score any other runs in the game, eventually falling to the Wonder Boys, 4-2.
Pitching Performance
In Game 1 the Weevils pitching staff had their work cut out for them, using four different arms throughout the games entirety. Game 2 was an incredible display of pitching ability as two different members of the pitching staf contributed to a 10-inning shut out over the Henderson State Reddies.
Mason Philley started on the mound, totaling 6.0 innings pitched with three runs allowed on eight hits. He stuck out five batters and had one walk.
Rigell Robinson entered the game in the bottom of the seventh, throwing 3.0 innings with one runs allowed on four hits.
Spencer Johnston started game 2, dishing out 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out three batters.
Trent Bunting closed out the game with 1.0 inning pitched.
The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 6-12 on the season and 4-8 in GAC conference play.

The Weevils are back to work on Tuesday, Mar. 15 as they travel to Southern Arkansas University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
