MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball program closed out the first two game of their weekend series against Arkansas Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Blossoms split the day, taking down the Golden Suns in the first match of the double header, 4-1, and falling in game 2, 9-0.
Game 1
The first game of the doubleheader proved to go Monticello's way as they would win the match 4-1.
After a slow start between both teams, UAM was the first to score as they put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Lauryn Davies and
Maddie Chalenburg both scored on a
Madison Morrissey double.
Hannah Holdbrook drove a single into left to score Morrissey and
Averie Gunther.
The Golden Suns scored a run of their own in the top of the fifth inning, but could not reclaim the lead from the Monticello ladies as the game came to a close in the seventh.
Game 2
UAM struggled to put a run on the board for a majority of the match.
The Golden Suns put up nine runs of their own, five in the third and four in the fourth. ATU would win the game in five with a final score of 9-0.
The split on the day moves UAM to 12-11 on the season and 7-3 in GAC play.
Pitching Performances
Sam Stephens started game 1, going 5.1 innings with one run allowed on five hits. She also recorded 5 strike outs.
Maguire Estill entered game 1 in the top of the sixth, throwing a total of 1.2 scoreless, and hitless, innings.
Maguire Estill started game 2, going 2.1 innings with five runs scored on six hits.
Jamie Franks entered in the third inning, recording four runs scored on four hits.
Kyan Woods took her opportunity on the mound, throwing 0.2 innings with no runs scored.
Maddie Chalenburg finished out the rest of the match for the Blossoms, throwing 1.0 inning total with two hits allowed. She struck out five in her outing.
On Deck
The Blossoms return to Alvy Early Softball Field Monday afternoon for Game 3 of their GAC series with Arkansas Tech. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
