Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team took down Mississippi College in a mid-week hit parade. The Weevils weren't the first team to score, but were certainly the team to watch in Monday's match-up with the Choctaws. UAM outscored the MC 13-7 to win the match.
After a slow start from both teams, Mississippi College was the first on the board, scoring a run in the fourth. The Weevils put on a hitting clinic over the next four innings. The Monticello ball players put up 6 runs in the third, 4 runs in the fourth, and 3 runs in the fifth.
Jalyn Williams started the run for UAM, doubling to left center to score both
Grant Shepherd and
Hudson Hopkins.
Reece Reading ripped a single in the fifth inning to score
Cade Thompson, and
Jordan Johnson scored on an error.
The fourth inning was a big inning for the Weevils as four runs crossed home.
Jordan Johnson brought home the first of the inning when he scored
DeShaun Cordova on a single to right center.
Chase Cripps and
Cade Thompson both scored on a single to left from
Reece Reading and
Jordan Johnson touched the plate on a single to right from
Grant Shepherd.
The Choctaws scored six runs in the top of the seventh to bring the score back to 8-7, but the home town team retaliated with their final five runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning. Williams scored on a
Chase Cripps single down the right field line.
Cade Thompson pulled a "brasi bomb" over the right field wall to bring home three more runs for UAM.
Jordan Johnson scored the final run of the ball game when he scored on a wild pitch. The Weevils would eventually take down the Choctaws with a final score of 13-7.
Arkansas-Monticello would win the mid-week game, defeating Mississippi College.
Pitching Performances
The UAM pitching staff had its work cut out for them, totaling four different pitchers in the game.
Charles Peacock started on the mound, totaling 5.0 innings pitched with one run allowed on two hits. He stuck out seven batters and had four walks.
Trent Bunting entered the game in the sixth, tallying 1.2 innings pitched with six runs allowed on two hits.
Cameron Johnson took his turn on the bump for Monticello in the seventh, throwing just 0.1 inning.
Rigell Robinson closes out the last 1.0 innings of the game for the Weevils, striking out three with no runs allowed and no hits.
Offensive Showcase
Cade Thompson - Went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and 2 walks.
Chase Cripps - Went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
Grant Shepherd - Went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and two walks.
Reece Reading - Went 2-for-6 with 3 RBIs.
Jordan Johnson - Went 2-for-5 with 3 runs and an RBI.
The victory pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 10-13 on the season as they prepare for their upcoming GAC series with East Central University.
