JACKSON, Tenn. – The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team took down Union University in a mid-week slugfest. The Weevils took the lead early in the game and refused to let the Bulldogs come back for the lead. UAM outscored UU 15-5 to win the match.
UAM was the first team on the board when they scored four runs in the top of the first inning.
Chase Cripps was the first to step on home after
Jordan Johnson ripped a double into center field.
Cade Thompson scored the second run of the inning on a fly out from
Reece Reading. Johnson scored himself when
Grant Shepherd singled to the pitcher and Shepherd scored on a fielders choice.
The Bulldogs responded with three runs of their own.
The Weevils tacked on two more runs in the second inning when
Jordan Johnson hit his second double of the game into the left center gap to score
Chase Cripps and
Cade Thompson.
After Union put up a run in the bottom half of the inning, Monticello would put up a 5 run inning in the third.
Nick Fakouri scored as Cripps was walked and
Jordan Johnson hit a grand slam to add four more runs to their lead.
Chase Cripps scored in the fifth as Johnson would ground out.
Cade Thompson would also score on a ground out from
Reece Reading.
Nick Fakouri would add a solo run to the board in the sixth when he scored on a wild pitch.
The final run of the game came in the eighth when
Trevor Rugg flew out to center field, scoring
Jalyn Williams.
Arkansas-Monticello would win the mid-week game, defeating Union University, 15-5.
Pitching Performances
The UAM pitching staff had its work cut out for them, totaling five different pitchers in the game.
Charles Peacock started on the mound, totaling 2.0 innings pitched with 4 runs allowed on 2 hits. He stuck out three batters and had five walks.
Trent Bunting entered the game in the bottom of the third, tallying 3.0 innings pitched with zero runs allowed on one hit. He struck out two batters and had one walk.
Jacob McDaniel took his turn on the mound in the sixth, throwing 1.0 inning with no runs allowed on no hits, striking out two.
Cameron Johnson started on the mound in the seventh, but allowed 1 run on 2 hits.
Jack Barna closed out the last 1.0 inning of the game for the Weevils with no runs allowed and no hits.

Chase Cripps - Went 3-for-4 with a triple, 4 runs scored, 1 RBI, and a walk.
Jordan Johnson - Went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, 2 doubles, 8 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk.
The victory pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 14-13 on the season and increases their win streak to 7 as they prepare for their upcoming GAC series with Harding University.
