Blossoms Split the Day with Lady Statesmen, Close Out With a Win

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello Softball team splits the day with Delta State University on Tuesday. UAM would fall in the first game 2-1 and win the second match 2-1.

Game 1
UAM struggled to string together hits for a majority of the game. They were finally able to put up a run of their own in the sixth when Grace Neal ripped a home run to left field.

Delta State was able to put up two runs of their own early in the game, eventually taking the win, 2-1.

Game 2
The second match of the day was a brilliant display of pitching from both teams as only two runs were scored until the final inning of the game.

The Blossoms started the off the game with a run scored in the first when Hannah Holdbrook scored on a Grace Neal ground ball.

UAM scored again in the second inning on a double steal. Caroline Tedder scored the run for the Blossoms.

DSU finally got on the board in the top of the seventh, but would fall short as Monticello would take the win, 2-1.
 
Pitching Performance
Jamie Franks started on the mound, totaling 3.0 innings pitched with two runs allowed on eight hits.
Maguire Estill entered the game in the fourth, throwing 3.0 innings as well with zero runs on one hit.
Kyann Woods would close out the last 1.0 inning of the game for the Blossoms.

Kyann Woods started Game 2, dishing out 2.0 innings with no runs scored and no hits allowed.
Sam Stephens grabbed 1.0 inning pitched. She also held the Lady Statesmen to no runs with just one hit.
Chandler Weast stepped on the mound third for the Blossoms, totaling 2.0 innings pitched with only two hits allowed. She struck out two batters.
Alexis Pevehouse threw 1.0 inning of her own, giving up only one hit.
Maddie Chalenburg was the final pitcher for UAM, posting 1.0 inning. She gave up a run on 2 hits.

The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 16-18 on the season.

The Weevils are back to work on Friday, Apr. 1 as the travel to Searcy, Arkansas for Game 1 and 2 of their GAC series with Harding University. The games are set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
