MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball program came home from Southern Arkansas Wednesday afternoon after a GAC double header with the Muleriders The Blossoms split the day, falling in the first game, 10-1, in five innings and winning the second match of the double header in extra innings, 6-5.
Game 1
UAM struggled to put a run on the board for a majority of the match. The Blossoms pushed 1 run across in the 3rd inning.
Alissa Suarez scored on a
Hannah Holdbrook groundout to first.
The Muleriders put up ten runs of their own, one in the first, two in the second, and seven more in the 4th. SAU would win the game in five with a final score of 10-1.
Game 2
The second game of the doubleheader proved to go Monticello's way as they would win the match 6-5 in extra innings.
UAM was the first to score as they put up a run in the top of the second as
Haley Cornell scored on a throwing error from the third baseman.
The Muleriders scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning, but UAM returned the favor, putting up three runs in the top of the fourth.
Caroline Tedder scored on a
Haley Cornell single to right field, Cornell crossed the plate on a
Madison Morrissey single down the left field line, and
Averie Gunther touched home on a
Hannah Holdbrook SAC fly to center field.
SAU put up two more in the fifth inning off a home run.
Monticello scored a run in the top of the sixth as Southern Arkansas walked across
Grace Neal.
The Muleriders homered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game back up at five.
UAM scored the final run of the match in the top of the eighth inning as Morrissey scored on a Suarez single to right field.
The Blossoms win the second game, 6-5. The split on the day moves UAM to 11-10 on the season and 5-2 in GAC play.
Pitching Performances
Jamie Franks started game 1, going 3.1 innings with seven runs allowed on ten hits.
Maddie Chalenburg entered game 1 in the bottom of the 4th, throwing a total of 0.2 innings. She allowed three runs on three hits.
Sam Stephens started game 2, going 2.1 innings with two runs scored on five hits.
Alexis Pevehouse entered in the third inning, throwing to only 2 batters.
Maguire Estill finished out the rest of the match for the Blossoms, throwing 5.2 innings total with three runs scored on five hits. She struck out five in her outing.
On Deck
The Blossoms return to Alvy Early Softball Field this weekend for a GAC match-up with Arkansas Tech University.
