MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball team drops their final regular season Great American Conference match-up with Southern Arkansas University on Tuesday. The Blossoms fell behind early in the match and were unable to come back against the Muleriders, finishing out the game with a final score of 9-3.
The SAU ladies were the first team to score in the match, putting a run on the board in the top of the first, one in the second, as well as three runs in the top of the fifth.
The Blossoms responded in the bottom half of the fifth as
Lauryn Davies crossed the plate on a
Grace Neal walk to make the score 5-1.
The Muleriders put up two more runs in the sixth inning, but were matched by UAM in the bottom half of the inning as
Maddie Pfleging and
Hannah Holdbrook both scored on an
Alissa Suarez single to right field.
Monticello was unable to score another run throughout the remainder of the match. SAU put up two runs in the seventh to eventually win the match, 9-3.
Pitching Performances
Sam Stephens started in the circle for the Blossoms, posting 5.0 innings on the day. Stephens gave up 5 runs on 10 hits to the Muleriders in her outing.
Maquire Estill was the second pitcher on the rubber, throwing 0.1 inning with 2 runs scored on 2 hits
Maddie Chalenburg tossed the remaining 1.2 innings for UAM, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs.
The loss on the day drops Arkansas-Monticello to 16-25 on the season and 10-14 in GAC play.
On Deck
The Blossoms return to the field on Saturday, Apr. 15th as they are back to host a double header against Southern Nazarene University. The games are set to begin at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. at Alvy Early Softball Field
