Blossoms Close Out Senior Day with a 1-1 Split Against the Savage Storm

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello Softball team splits the day with Southern Nazarene University on Friday to close out Senior Day at Alvy Early Softball Field. UAM would fall in the first game 4-2 and win the second match 6-4.

Game 1
UAM was quick to get on the board, taking a 2-0 lead over the Crimson Storm in the first inning. Both Averie Gunther and Hannah Holdbrook would score when Alissa Suarez drove the ball to right field, as an error was made by the SNU right fielder. These were unfortunately the only runs the Blossoms would score for the remainder of the ballgame.

The Storm would find themselves a run in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. The score would remain 4-2 for the remainder of the match.

Game 2
The Blossoms started the off the game hot, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Haley Cornell and Maddie Pfleging both scored on a ground ball from Alissa Suarez. Averie Gunther also scored in the inning when Grace Neal hit a ground ball to the shortstop.

The Storm would score 2 runs of their own in the second, but UAM responded when Caroline Tedder scored on an error in the bottom of the inning.

The Blossoms scored their final 2 runs of the game in the fourth when Alexis Pevehouse drove in Haley Cornell on a fly ball. Holdbrook would score the final run on a single up the middle from Sophie Wood.
 
Pitching Performance
Sam Stephens started game 1, totaling 4.1 innings pitched with 4 runs allowed on 7 hits.
Maddie Chalenburg closed out the match, posting 2.2 innings thrown. She gave up 0 runs and allowed only 2 hits.

Jamie Franks started on the mound in game 2, totaling 3.2 innings pitched with 4 runs allowed on 6 hits.
Averie Gunther would close out the last 3.1 innings of the game for the Blossoms, allowing 0 runs and only 3 hits.

The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 17-26 on the season and 11-15 in GAC play.

Up Next
The Blossoms are back to work on Saturday, April 16th as they close out game 3 of their GAC series with Southern Nazarene University. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m, but could be moved to an earlier time due to potential weather.
