Blossoms Open Oklahoma Baptist Series With a Doubleheader Loss

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball team dropped both games in a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist University to open up their weekend, GAC series. There Blossoms put up fights of their own, but eventually fell to the Bisons in both games of the doubleheader, losing the first match, 3-2, and the second match, 4-3.

Game 1
The Blossoms weren't the first to score, as OKBU scored a run in the first, but quickly struck back in the second when they Grace Neal drove a two run home run over the left field wall to reclaim the lead.

The Bisons would score a run in both the sixth and seventh inning to eventually win the game, 3-2.

Game 2
The Bisons were once again the first, putting up three runs in the first and one more in the second to take a quick 4-0 lead over the Blossoms

Monticello responded with 3 runs of their own in the fifth inning when Haley Cornell doubled to left field to score Christa Lannon and Grace Neal ripped her second home run of the day over the left field wall, scoring Cornell in the process.

Unfortunately UAM was unable to score another run as the match came to a close with the Bison on top, 4-3.

Pitching Performances
Sam Stephens started in the circle for the Blossoms in Game 1, posting 5.2 innings on the day. Stephens gave up 2 runs on 8 hits in her outing, striking out 2 batters.
Averie Gunther tossed the remaining 1.0 innings on the mound for UAM, giving up 3 hits and 1 runs. She struck out a batter as well.

Maguire Estill got the nod to start Game 2, totaling 0.1 innings pitched with 3 runs allowed on 3 hits.
Jamie Franks threw the next 4.2 innings for the Blossoms, allowing 1 run on 6 hits.
Maddie Chalenburg grabbed the last inning, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits. 

The doubleheader loss drops Arkansas-Monticello to 17-28 on the season and 11-17 in GAC play.

On Deck
The Blossoms return to the field on Saturday for their third and final game with Oklahoma Baptist University. The game is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
