Blossoms Drop GAC Series with Ouachita Baptist

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball team dropped games against Ouachita Baptist University in their weekend, GAC series. There Blossoms put up fights of their own, but eventually fell to the Tigers in both games of the doubleheader, finishing with an 0-3 record on the series.

Game 1
The Blossoms struggled to find their offensive stride in the first game as they were unable to put a run on the board until the bottom of the seventh.

Throughout the matches entirety, Ouachita Baptist would put up 5 runs of their own.

UAM finally found some hits in the bottom of the seventh as they scored 3 runs. Maddie Chalenburg scored on a single from Caroline Tedder, Averie Gunther scored on a Grace Neal ground out, and Tedder scores on an Alissa Suarez single to center field.

Even with the last minute effort, UAM was unable to reclaim the lead from OBU. They would fall to the Tigers, 5-3.

Game 2
The Tigers were once again the first, putting up a run in the first.

Monticello responded in the second inning when Madison Gardiner hit a solo home run over the left field wall.

OBU found 5 runs in the top of the fourth inning, followed by 2 Blossom runs in the bottom half of the inning. Sophie Wood doubled to center field, scoring Caroline tedder in the process and Shae Shoquist reached on an error and Wood scored.

UAM scored their final run of the match in the seventh inning when Tedder scored on a Suarez single to center field, as the Blossoms eventually fall to the Tigers, 6-4.

Pitching Performances
Averie Gunther started in the circle for the Blossoms in Game 1, posting 5.1 innings on the day. Gunther gave up 5 runs on 8 hits to the Tigers in her outing, striking out three batters.
Maddie Chalenburg tossed the remaining 1.2 innings on the mound for UAM, giving up 0 hits and 0 runs. She struck out a batter as well.

Sam Stephens got the nod to start Game 2, totaling 3.0 innings pitched with 4 runs allowed on 5 hits.
Maddie Chalenburg threw the next 0.1 inning for the Blossoms, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.
Kyann Woods got 2.2 innings of work in for herself as well, posting 0 runs on just 1 hit. She struck out 2 batters.
Maguire Estill grabbed the last inning, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits. 

The series loss drops Arkansas-Monticello to 16-24 on the season and 10-13 in GAC play.

On Deck
The Blossoms return to the field on Wednesday, Apr. 13th as they host Southern Arkansas University for a make-up, GAC match at Alvy Early Softball Field.
