Blossoms Shut Down Golden Suns; Win Third Straight GAC Match-Up

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted in-state, Great American Conference member Arkansas Tech University at Steelman Field House on Thursday afternoon. The Blossoms came out of their fifteenth contest of the year with a 67-60 win over the Golden Suns.

Returning Sophomore Bailey Harris yet again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (7-8, 4-5 GAC) with a solid 16 point performance on the evening. Harris shot 7-16 on field goals, 1-3 from the beyond-the-arc and 1-2 on free throws hit against the Golden Suns. As a team player, she also contributed four rebounds, four assists, and a block.

Newcomer Cyarah Kensmil  had another great night, scoring 13 points of her own. She went 5-11 on field goals and 3-4 from the free throw line with six rebounds. She also contributed three blocks and a steal.

Joi Montgomery was the final Blossom to put up double-digit points, posting 12 on the night. She went 5-12 on field goals and 2-2 on free throws, with a team leading eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Arkansas Tech (8-5, 6-3 GAC) was led by Jalei Oglesby with a 22 point, 13 rebound performance.

Arkansas Tech was the first team on the board, opening the first quarter with a 7-0 run to claim an early lead. Bailey Harris would get the Blossoms on the board with a driving layup. UAM would claw their way back, fighting it out with Tech until Harris put the Blossoms up 16-15 with a late jumper. UAM would eventually finish out the half going 8-20 on field goals and 1-2 on three-pointers. The two teams would head into the second quarter with Arkansas-Monticello on top 18-15.

The second quarter began with the Golden Suns striking first with a layup (17-18 UAM). It was a well fought quarter by Tech but they were no match for the might of the Blossoms. UAM shot for only 33.3% of their field goals throughout the quarter, while Tech would shoot for 18.2% in their performance. The teams would head to their locker rooms with the Blossoms on top, 29-23.

The third quarter was another back-and-forth match-up as the teams would fight it out for the full 10 minutes. ATU would outscore UAM 18-16 in the third ten minute period of the game. The Golden Suns would go 8-17 on field goals, compared to Arkansas-Monticello's 7-15.

The final quarter of the game was a fast and hard fought 10 minutes. Tech would find the first points of the quarter going 6-0 run to start the quarter (47-45 Tech). The Blossoms wouldn't take this laying down, as Montgomery would score a jumper to tie up the game at 47 all. UAM would then go to continually build their lead up until the end of the game. Arkansas-Monticello would out score Tech 22-19 in the quarter, with UAM coming out on top of the match with a final score of 67-60.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
