ALVA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team traveled to Alva, Oklahoma on Saturday to take on out-of-state Great American Conference foe Northwestern Oklahoma State University in their sixth conference match-up of the 2022-23 season. The Weevils came out of the final stop in their Oklahoma trip with an 82-74 loss to the Rangers.

Josh Denton led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (5-7, 1-5 GAC). Denton posted 21 points in the match, going 7-11 on field goals throughout the match with a 5-5 performance on shots beyond-the-arc. He also went 2-3 on free throws with two defensive rebounds and two assists on the day.
Edwin Louis posted 14 points of his own for the Weevils against Northwestern Oklahoma, going only 2-7 on field goals and 4-7 on shots from the line with five rebounds and an assist.
Isaac Jackson and
Timur Krupalija were the final two Weevils with double digit points, posting 10 points each. Jackson would go 4-6 on field goals, hitting 2-2 on three-pointers with a rebound, an assist and a steal. Krupalija went 4-7 on field goals in his Saturday evening performance with 2-2 on free throws. He also contributed three rebounds.
NWOSU (5-5,1-5 GAC) was led by
Malik Parsons with 29 points each.
The first half of the match began with two Northwestern Oklahoma layups, followed by a free throw to give the Rangers an early 5-0 lead over the Weevils. The Weevils would respond with a fight back, tying the game back up at 10-10. The match would swap advantages eight more times before Arkansas-Monticello would pulling out front in the final six seconds of the opening 20 minutes. The half would come to an end with the Weevils shooting for only 46% on field goals, hitting 13 out of 28 attempts, with a 7-12 three-point ratio. The Weevils were able to put up 39 points throughout the entirety, leading 39-37 as the two teams would head into the locker room.
The second half opened with the Rangers scoring a dunk to tie the game back up. The match was a back and forth battle between the two teams, seeing the score become tied six times before the Rangers would claim their final advantage of the ball-game with four minutes left on the clock. NWOSU would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the match. The game would come out to a close with Northwestern Oklahoma on top 82-74.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 17 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
