MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted in-state Great American Conference member, Ouachita Baptist University, on Thursday evening. The Blossoms played three total sets, dropping the matchup against the Tigers 3-0.
The opening set started with an intense back and forth battle between the Blossoms and the Tigers, as both teams looked for early control of the the set. The tigers began to pull away from the Blossoms, but a block from
Abrielle Jordan kept the UAM within reach. The Tigers still had the lead going into the mid point of the set, with Arkansas-Monticello not far behind. Ouachita Baptist still held control of the set going into the back half of the set, but two big kills by
Natalie White continued to give the Blossoms some life. Set one ended with a 25-12 win for the visiting team.
Set two saw four straight Tiger points to give Ouachita the lead first, but the UAM responded with two points of their own. One being a big time kill by
Campbell Horn. The Blossoms weren't stopping their fight with some stellar digs by
Zoe Finkler and a kill by
Natalie White to cling to the match.UAM stayed within arms reach of the Tigers throughout the mid part of the set. Ouachita increased their lead going into the back half of the set, but a massive block and kill from
Aniyah Williams gave UAM some life. The Blossoms continued to push back at the Tigers with some more big kills from
Evalyn Dang and
Natalie White, but were unable to slow down the Tiger offense. UAM dropped set two, 25-18.
The final set started with another lead by the Tigers, but a kill by
Abrielle Jordan put the Blossoms on the board. Ouachita increased their lead to six points for an early advantage.
Jalen Scroggins and
Abrielle Jordan gave the Blossoms some life, smashing two kills before the mid-way section of the set. The Tigers increased their lead to 10, heading into the back half, unfortunately taking set three from the Blossoms, 25-12.
Abrielle Jordan led the Blossoms in kills with 7 on the night.
Jordan Wehr contributed 11 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by
Stasha Adams and
Zoe Finkler with 13 and 10 digs on the night.
UP NEXT
Arkansas-Monticello is back in action Tuesday, Oct. 31 when they travel to in-state Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas University. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
