MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted rival Great American Conference member East Central University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms played three total sets against the Tigers, and ended up dropping the match 3-0.
The opening set began with two quick points from the Tigers, but a massive block from
Jasmine Welton, and a big kill by
Jalen Scroggins put the Blossoms back in the game, tying the set at 5-5. The Tiger's regained control with a six point run for a 15-9 advantage over the UAM. The Blossoms weren't finished, fighting back as a couple key hits from
Abrielle Jordan put Arkansas-Monticello back in the set at 14-16. Two big time blocks from
Welton and
Jalen Scroggins made it a one-point game. With an intense battle between the blossoms and tigers in the back half of the set the Tigers ended up taking the first set 25-23.
Set two started off with a couple quick points from the Tigers, but the Blossoms weren't far behind, taking a few points of their own. Both UAM and ECU continued to exchange points during throughout the first half of the set with the Blossoms behind by two points each time. With an attack error from East Central, the Blossoms were able to tie up the game 7-7, and a hit by
Jasmine Welton put the Blossoms back ahead of the Tigers 8-7. ECU quickly tied the game back up, but a massive block by
Abrielle Jordan and
Jasmine Welton put the Blossoms back on top. The tigers took back the advantage and remained in control for the remainder of the set, outscoring the Blossoms 25-16.
The final set started off with the Tigers taking a 5-0 lead over the Blossoms. Just when the Blossoms needed it, another clutch kill from
Abrielle Jordan put the Blossoms on the board. The Tigers remained in control of the set, 11-5, but the Blossoms began to make their comeback with the combination of some stellar defense from
Stasha Adams and
Zoe Finkler, and another big hit from
Jordan. The Tigers powered ahead with an 18- 10 lead over the Blossoms. UAM was unable to make a big enough push to match and ended up dropping the set 25-17.
Abrielle Jordan led the Blossoms in kills with 10 on the night.
Jordan Wehr contributed 12 assists in the match, followed by
Bruna Silva with 12 assists of her own.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by
Stasha Adams with 19 digs on the night.

Arkansas-Monticello is back in action this Friday night, October 6th, when they take on fellow GAC member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
