Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted Great American Conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Friday evening. The Blossoms played four total sets, dropping the match to Southeastern 3-1.
The Blossoms opened up set one with a couple quick points to take a quick 2-0 lead over the Savage Storm. As the match continued, both teams battled to gain control. A big kill by
Kerrigan Biggs started a run to give UAM a three point lead. Southeastern pushed a comeback during the half way point of the set, but the Arkansas-Monticello wasn't going to let them come back easy. A huge kill from
Campbell Horn and a big time block by
Abrielle Jordan put the blossoms up 19-14. Going into the back half of the set, the Storm fought back, making it a one point set. Southeastern's efforts proved to be effective, as they would take the first set, 25-22.
The second set started off with the Storm taking an early lead over the Blossoms. A kill from
Jalen Scroggins put the Blossoms back in the game, where they were able to catch back up to the Storm, making it a one point game. Going into the mid-way point of the set the, Southeastern held a 13-7 lead. Some big hits by
Kerrigan Biggs and
Jalen Scroggins put UAM back in the game. Despite their best efforts, the Blossoms were unable to fully comeback in the back half of the set, dropping set two, 25-18.
An intense back and forth between the two teams came in the opening of set three, as they fought to see who would gain control of the set first. The Storm started to break away from the Blossoms, gaining a 7-3 lead, but a big kill and block from
Kerrigan Biggs put the Blossoms right back in it. The Storm lead going into the halfway point of the set, but a kill by
Jasmine Welton, and a stellar joint effort on defense, led the Blossoms to tie the game back up at 14-14. UAM was the first to break the tie gaining a 4 point lead over the visiting Southeastern. The Blossoms held control of their lead going into the back half of the set, winning 25-19.
The Savage Storm took an early 6-2 advantage to open set four, continuing to hold to hold their lead for a majority of the set. The Blossoms chipped away at the Storm lead, but Southeastern maintained control going into the back half of the set. Arkansas-Monticello eventually dropped the final set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.
Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 11 on the night.
Bruna Silva contributed 15 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by
Stasha Adams with 23 digs of her own on the night.

Arkansas-Monticello is back in action next Monday, October 9 when they host a non conference match up against Texas A&M International University. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
