MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted in-state Great American Conference member, Arkansas Tech University, on Monday evening. The Blossoms played four exciting sets, winning the match-up against the Golden Suns 3-1.
The opening set started with Arkansas Tech taking an early 4-0 lead, but saw the Blossoms respond with back-to-back points to cut the lead in half. After the Golden Suns extended their lead to 7-2, UAM followed up with five straight points, including two electric service aces from
Bruna Silva and a big time block from
Natalie White and
Abrielle Jordan, to tie the set at 7-7. The tie would prove to be the first of ten total ties throughout the set, with the score being matched at every point from 7 through 16, with multiple ATU service errors, and key kills by
Kerrigan Biggs,
Natalie White, and
Campbell Horn. The Golden Suns were the first to break the draw streak, eventually taking set one 25-19.
The Blossoms scored first in set two, taking an early 2-0 lead over the Golden Suns. Arkansas Tech attempted to even the score, but an impressive kill from
Jasmine Welton pushed UAM's lead forward, extending their lead to 4-2. When the Golden Suns tried to make another grab for the lead the Blossoms united together to remain in control of the set. The Blossoms continued their lead by winning the war at the net, seeing three big time blocks from
Abrielle Jordan,
Campbell Horn, and
Jasmine Welton. The Blossoms remained on top for the remainder of the set, with the set winning kill from
Evalyn Dang for a 25-20 victory.
Set three saw a back and forth rally before Tech eventually pulling ahead to a 5-2 advantage. The Blossoms wouldn't settle though, as they began to chip away at the Golden Suns lead. A kill from
Campbell Horn, followed by two key aces from
Anneliese Schonauer put the Blossoms on top, being the start of eight straight Blossom points going on the board. The Golden Suns attempted to scratch some points of their own, but two kills from
Jasmine Welton and an ace from
Stasha Adams secured the lead for UAM at 19-12.
Jordan Wehr called set point with another Blossoms ace to send the match to set four with a 25-14 win over the ATU.
The final set once again saw Tech take the first lead, but the Blossoms quickly tied the set back up with a kill from
Jasmine Welton. Both teams continued to fight tooth and nail for the lead, exchanging points back and forth throughout the mid-point of the set. Neither team was backing down, but key kills from
Jordan Wehr and
Campbell Horn pushed UAM to an 18-16 advantage. The Golden Suns tried to fight their way back, but the Blossoms continued to deny the offense. The Blossoms would go on to take set four 25-19, winning the match in a victorious fashion 3-1.
Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 10 on the night.
Jordan Wehr and
Bruna Silva lead the match in assists with each contributing 18 on the night.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by
Stasha Adams 17 digs on the night.
Evalyn Dang posted 12 digs of her own.

Arkansas-Monticello is back in action Thursday, Nov. 9th when they host to in-state Great American Conference member Harding University for the final home game of the season. Thursday we will also be recognizing the graduating senior before the start of the game. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
