Blossoms Close 2023 Leg of Season with a Loss to the Tigers

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team continued Great American Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to compete against in-state conference member Ouachita Baptist University. The Blossoms came out with a 81-78 loss to the Tigers.

Returning junior, Bailey Harris, was once again the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (4-6, 0-4 GAC) with 21 points, going 8-19 on total field goals, 1-5 on threes, and 4-7 from the free throw line. She grabbed seven defensive rebounds on the afternoon, also contributing three assist, a block, and a steal in her 36 minutes played.

Alindsey Long followed close behind, posting 17 points of her own on the game. She hit 6-9 field goals, 3-4 three pointers, and 6-7 free throws on the game while giving the Blossoms two offensive rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Kelsey Blakemore and Alyssia Thorne were the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 12 and 10 points against the Tigers, respectfully. Blakemore hit 4-7 field goals, 1-3 three pointers, and 3-3 shots from the line with a team-leading eight rebounds, three steals, and a steal on the day. Thorne connected on 4-11 field goals and 2-3 shots from beyond-the-arc with two defensive rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal.
 
Ouachita Baptist (5-3, 3-1 GAC) was led by Heidi Robinson with 29 points.

The first quarter opened with an early 7-0 lead for UAM thanks to a couple Blossom layups and a three from Alindsey Long. The Tigers clawed their way back to a 14-14 game with four minutes on the clock. The score going into the second quarter had Arkansas-Monticello leading 23-16 over the UAM. 

Quarter two saw a complete flip of momentum, with Ouachita outscoring Monticello, 18-9 in the second ten minute period. The teams would head to the locker room with UAM still leading the Tigers, 34-32.

The third quarter proved to once again go to the Tigers, with the home team seeing a high of a nine point advantage over the Blossoms. Through best efforts, UAM trailed OUA 56-48 heading into the final quarter of the game.

The fourth quarter saw the Blossoms outscoring the Tigers for the second time of the afternoon, shooting for 30 points, compared to Ouachita's 25. After an absolute thriller of a quarter, and Monticello trailing 79-78 after a layup in the final second, two Tiger free throws would see the score conclude with an 81-78 loss for UAM.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action at Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, Jan. 4 when they host Great American Conference member Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
