MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team hosted Langston University on Monday evening to close out non-conference play for the 2023-24 season. The Weevils came out with a 67-64 win over the Lions.
Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (2-5), shooting for 29 points in his 40 minutes played. Jackson went 10-20 on total field goals and 9-11 from the free point line. He led in rebounds for the Boll Weevils, grabbing two offensive and three defensive rebounds on top of two blocks, two steals, and an assist.
Zane Nelson was the other Weevil with double-digit points on the night, scoring 15 in his 37 minutes on the court. Nelson was 5-10 on field goals, 1-5 from beyond the three point line, and 4-5 on free throws with three rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
Langston was led by
Chereef Knox with 24 points, respectfully.
The opening half of the game saw a battle between both teams, with neither team seeing a lead over six throughout its entirety. The Lions took the first points, but UAM's
Zae Wiggins put the home team back on top with a three. Monticello held on to the lead until the 7:00 mark, when Langston tied the score at 18-18. After multiple ties, the Weevils would take a 31-29 lead and hold on to that advantage for the remainder of the half. The teams head to the locker room with UAM out front, 34-31.
Langston scored first in the second half as well, but UAM remained in the lead for the remainder of the game. The Boll Weevils would claim their second victory of the season, taking down the Lions, 67-64.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 11 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to action at Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 9 to host Harding University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
