Blossoms Drop First Game of Oklahoma Stint to the Tigers

ADA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball traveled to Ada, Oklahoma to tak on Great American Conference member East Central University on Thursday afternoon. The Blossoms came out of the contest with a 27-50 loss to the Tigers.

Joi Montgomery led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-13, 6-10 GAC) as the top scorer on the night with 6 points. She shot for 3-8 on field goals, going 0-1 on three pointers and 0-2 from the free throw line throughout the match. She had four defensive rebounds contributed on top of three steals, a block and an assist.

East Central (8-12, 5-11 GAC) was led by Mackenzie Crusoe with an 18 point performance.

The opening 10 minutes proved to be the lowest scoring quarter of the game. East Central was the first team to put points on the board in the game with two early free throws. The Blossoms would find a handful of baskets as the opening ten minutes continued, unfortunately being the only points UAM would find on the day. Arkansas-Monticello would finish out the quarter going 2-10 on field goals, 0-1 on threes, and 0-2 on free throws. The two teams would head into the second quarter with East Central on top 9-4.

The second quarter would once again go the Tigers way, outscoring the Blossoms 14 points to seven throughout the second 10 minute period. UAM shot for 21.4% of their field goals throughout the quarter, while East Central would shoot for 41.7% in their performance. The teams would head to the locker rooms with the Blossoms down 23-11.

The third quarter was won by the home team again, with the Tigers outscoring the Blossoms 13 points to seven. The quarter would come to a close with the Tigers leading 36-18.

The final quarter of the game would once again go ECU's way, as they scored 14 points compared to the Blossoms' 9. UAM was unable to chip away the Tiger lead in the final ten minutes. The match would come to a close with a Blossom loss, falling to the Tigers, 50-27.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 21 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to the court on Saturday, February 11 when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma to take on Great American Conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The match is set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
