MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team hosted Great American Conference member Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday evening. The Boll Weevils came out of their nineteenth GAC match-up of the 2022-23 season with a dominant 82-64 WIN over the Bison.
Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (11-14, 7-12 GAC) with 22 points in his Thursday evening performance against the Bison. Jackson shot 7-21 on field goals, 4-6 on shots from beyond-the-arc, and went 4-4 on free throws. He also contributed four offensive and one defensive rebounds on top of four assists and a steal.
Cole Anderson posted 21 points for the Weevil in his Thursday evening performance. Anderson was near perfect on field goals, hitting 10 of 11 and going 1-2 free throws. He also contributed nine rebounds on top of two blocks.
Mario Fantina and Walter Covington were the final Boll Weevils scoring double-digits on Thursday, posting 14 and 10 points each, respectfully. Fantina was 5-8 on field goals for UAM, going 2-3 from beyond-the-arc with two free throws. He also contributed six rebounds on top of two assists. Covington was 4-7 on field goals, 1-3 on three pointers and 1-2 from the free throw line with two assists, a rebound and a steal.
Oklahoma Baptist (12-13, 9-10 GAC) was led by
Paul King with a 21 point performance.
The opening 20 minutes of the game began with Oklahoma Baptist's leading scorer hitting a three for the first points of the contest. The Weevils would respond by retaking the lead away from the Bison on a free throw from
Isaac Jackson. The remainder of the half would prove to be a back and forth battle between the two teams, before UAM began pulling ahead of OBU. The first half of the contest would come to a close with Arkansas-Monticello shooting for 45.45% on field goals compared to Oklahoma Baptist's 40.91% on the half. The teams would head to the locker room with the Weevils leading, 37-27.
The second half began with a layup from Anderson and two free throws for Josh Denton from both, but the Weevils were met with the Bison's will to win. Arkansas-Monticello would hold a double digit lead over the visiting Oklahoma Baptist team for the remainder of the second 20 minute period, reaching a game-high lead of 21 points. The match would come to a close with a Boll Weevil victory as UAM would take down the Bison in dominant fashion with a final score of 82-64.
Arkansas-Monticello committed only 10 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to Steelman Field House on Saturday, February 18 when they host Great American Conference member Southern Nazarene University. The match will tip off at 3:00 p.m.
