MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team hosted rival Southern Arkansas University at Weevils Field for a non-conference mid-week game on Tuesday afternoon. The Weevils came out of with a 17-4 loss to the rival Muleriders.

Game 1, 7 Innings

Scoring Recap:
Southern Arkansas was the first team to get on the board, scoring a single run in the second on a double to left field.

Cade Cancilla was the first Boll Weevil to cross the plate, scoring on a wild pitch in the second. UAM would close out the inning with a runner left on base and head into the third with a 1-1 game.

The Muleriders left 3 runners on base to end their third inning as Kirk Woolf made an incredible diving play for the third out. The Weevils found two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning with Logan Jones scoring on a fielders choice and Cade Thompson scored on an error by the shortstop.

SAU picked up four runs in the fourth to reclaim a 5-3 lead over UAM, followed by six more runs in the sixth inning.

Chaz Poppy launched a solo home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth to give the Weevils their final run of the game.

Southern Arkansas would follow up with three home runs in the seventh to tack on six more runs.

The mid-week would come to an end with a 17-4 loss to SAU.

Pitching Performances
- Charles Peacock started on the mound for the Weevils, totaling 3.1 innings with only 4 runs allowed on 5 hits. He also struck out 5 batters in his appearance.
- Matt Huey took his turn on the bump, tossing 1.2 innings while allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. He also had a strikeout.
- Jacob McDaniel saw an inning of work for UAM, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits with a strikeout.
- Ryan Mesaris was the fourth Weevil on the mound, throwing to six batters and allowing 6 runs on 4 hits.
- Mitchell Maxfield closed out the final inning with 0 runs on 0 hits. He struck out 2 batters.

- Chaz Poppy - 2-for-3 with 1 Home Run, 2 RBI and 1 Run Scored
- Cade Cancilla - 2-for-3 with 1 Double and 1 Run Scored

The loss on the day drops Arkansas-Monticello to a 11-7 record for the 2023 season.
