PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team traveled to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to take on the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Tuesday evening. This was the Blossoms second match-up against the Golden Lions this year, as they scrimmaged them before the start of the season. They played three total sets, dropping their fifth match of the season.

UAM closes out the day with a 0-5 total record on the 2023 season after the conclusion of Tuesday. 

The opening set was a ferocious display of volleyball from both UAM and UAPB, with both teams refusing to let the other pull ahead for the opening half of the set. The Golden Suns found a break at the 12-11 mark with a 4-0 run, but were quickly met with the Blossoms scoring five points to their two. Pine Bluff proved to lead the remainder of the set, eventually taking the win, 25-20. 

Set two started off with the Blossoms quickly taking a 3-0 lead over the home team. UAM would hold on to that lead until UAPB found six straight points to tie the game at 8-all. Thanks to multiple Blossoms finding kills, Arkansas-Monticello was able to retake the lead at 12-10. As the set was coming to an end, a 3-0 run from UAM tied the game at 21-21. The Golden Suns prevailed, winning their second set with a final score of 25-22.

Arkansas-Monticello started the third set with two points to once again take an early lead, but were out score 11 points to 2 as Pine Bluff would reclaim the lead. The Golden Lions took advantage of UAM attack errors throughout the match to increase their lead. Even with an end game run for the Blossoms to put them within four, the set would eventually come to a close with a 25-17 win for UAPB. Arkansas - Pine Bludd would take the win 3-0.

Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 12.

Bruna Silva contributed 15 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams with 10 digs.

Arkansas-Monticello returns to action on Friday, September 8th when they travel to Denton, Texas to compete in Texas Womens University's 2023 Denton Volleyfest tournament! The Blossoms will take on Augustana University at 9:00 a.m., followed by a match against the University of Central Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m to conclude the first day of the invitational.
