DENTON, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team traveled to Denton, Texas to compete in the Texas Women's University 2023 Denton Volleyvest Tournament! Their first match of the day took place at 9 a.m. against Augustana University. They played three sets and ended up falling to the Vikings 3-0.

The opening set began with a quick push for the lead from Augustana.The Vikings started off strong with a 4-0 run, but were quickly met by the Blossoms scoring two points of their own and battling to keep themselves in the game. The set then went back and forth with a battle for points between the two teams before Augustana took over with a 14 point streak. Arkansas-Monticello snagged a point to end the run, but the first set would come to an inevitable end with a 25-7 loss to the Vikings.

Set two started off with Augustana scoring the first point, but UAM responded with a point of their own. The Vikings began to show the same amount of dominance portrayed in the opening set, but the Blossoms weren't done yet. After an intense back and forth battle between both teams, the Viking point streak came to a close thanks to a huge block by Abrielle Jordan. A kill from Tatum Bloom gave a spark to UAM, as they would outscore Augustana 7-3 to close the score gap. The Vikings concluded the match with a final kill to defeat the Blossoms with a score of 25-15.

The third set began again with another back and forth battle between the Blossoms and Vikings. The Vikings once again took control, but the Blossoms weren't going down without a fight. Due to a combination of a Jasmine Welton kill and an aced serve from Bruna Silva, the Blossoms were able to tie the set at 4-4. The Vikings re-took the lead for the remainder of the set, outscoring the Blossoms 21- 8. The final set ended with a score of 25-12 giving Augustana the match win of 3-0 over the Blossoms.

Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 5.

Bruna Silva contributed 10 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Blossoms were once again led by Stasha Adams with 6 digs.

Arkansas-Monticello returns to action later this afternoon at 2 p.m. against the University of Central Oklahoma to conclude the first day of the invitational.
