Blossoms Open Oklahoma Stint With Loss to East Central

ADA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team opened the first leg of their Oklahoma trip in Ada, Oklahoma on Thursday against East Central University. The Blossoms came out with a 49-45 loss to the Tigers.

Returning junior, Bailey Harris, was once again the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (4-9, 0-7 GAC), being the lone Blossom in double-digits with 16 points. Harris went 6-15 on total field goals, 2-6 on threes, and 2-5 from the free throw line. She grabbed five defensive rebounds on the evening, also contributing three blocks and an assist in her 34 minutes played.
 
East Central (5-6, 1-6 GAC) was led by Mackenzie Crusoe with 30 points.

The first quarter started off with an early lead from the Tigers. Alindsey Long was the first Blossom to put points on the bored for UAM. The score going into the second had Arkansas-Monticello trailing East Central 11-19. 

Quarter two saw much more momentum, with UAM outscoring ECU, 15-4 in the second ten minute period. A three pointer from Jayla Stirgus gave the Blossoms a one point lead over the Tigers. The teams would go into halftime with the Blossoms in the lead 26-23 over the Tigers.

The third quarter proved to be won by the Blossoms, as UAM outscored ECU, 39-33. Bailey Harris lead the charge in the third quarter keeping the Blossoms in the lead with two key shots from beyond the arc. UAM continued to maintain their lead over East Central as they headed into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter was an absolute battle throughout its entirety. After an intense final period, a final three pointer from the Tigers would solidify a 49-45 loss for UAM.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 22 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
 

UP NEXT
The Blossoms close out the trip on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma to take on out-of-state Great American Conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m.
