Blossoms Leave Oklahoma With a Win Over Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team closed out their Oklahoma stint against Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 59-56 victory over the Savage Storm.

Alindsey Long was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (5-9, 1-7 GAC) with 17 points, going 7-11 on total field goals and 3-4 on threes. Long was second on the night in rebounds, grabbing three offensive and four defensive on the afternoon, while also contributing two assists and a block in her 35 minutes.

Alyssia Thorne followed behind with 13 points and a team-leading eight total rebounds, one offensive and seven defensive. Thorne hit 5-8, 1-1 shots from beyond-the-arc, and 2-2 free throws on the game while also giving the Blossoms a block.

Haleigh Crews and Bailey Harris were the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectfully. Crews saw 4-12 field goals fall on the day, 1-2 three pointers, and 3-4 shots from the line with four assists, two defensive rebounds, and two steals.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma (4-10, 0-8 GAC) was led by Kenzli Warden with 16 points.

The first quarter proved to be a draw between the teams, seeing both score 13 points in the opening 10 minutes. The Storm were the first to score, seeing a jumper on their third possession, but a three from Alyssia Thorne gave the Blossoms the lead for the majority of the quarter. A final three from Southeastern with 2:14 on the clock would eventually conclude the period, 13-13.

Quarter two saw the lowest scoring period of the game, with the Storm outscoring the Blossoms, 13-7. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello trailing Southeastern, 26-20.

The third and fourth quarters both proved to be won by the Blossoms, as UAM outscored SE 20-16 in the third and 19-14 in the fourth. Southeastern extended their lead in the third to a 16 point advantage with 6:55 on the clock before UAM found their game. The Blossoms scored 16 straight points to tie the score at 38 before the Storm found another scoring opportunity. As the game continued through the fourth, Monticello took back the lead with 7:13 and maintained it for the rest of the game. The game would conclude with a Blossom victory, 59-56.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
 

UP NEXT
The Blossoms return home to continue 2024 action on Thursday, Jan. 18 when they host out of state Great American Conference member Oklahoma Baptist University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
