MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted out of state conference member Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 69-60 loss to the Bison.
Newcomer
Haleigh Crews was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (5-10, 1-8 GAC) with 16 points, going 6-8 on total field goals and 1-2 on threes, and 3-3 from the free throw line. Crews grabbed two rebounds, grabbing one offensive and one defensive on the afternoon, while also contributing two assists and a steal.
Alindsey Long followed behind with 12 points and an offensive rebound. Long hit 3-12 field goals, 2-8 shots from beyond-the-arc, and 4-4 free throws on the game.
Kelsey Blakeore was the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 11 points, respectfully. Blakemore saw 3-8 field goals fall on the day, 1-4 three pointers, and 4-4 shots from the line with three steals, two rebounds, and two assists.
Oklahoma Baptist (7-8, 4-5 GAC) was led by
Jaedyn Getman with 22 points.
The first quarter proved to be won by the home team, seeing the blossoms outscore the Bison 21 points to 12 in the opening 10 minutes.
Bailey Harris scored a layup in UAM's first possession of the game to give the Blossoms an early advantage over OBU. After two quick draws, Monticello took hold of the lead on a free throw from
Alyssia Thorne, and held on to that advantage for the remainder of the period.
Quarter two proved to be a flip in the momentum, with the Bison scoring 20 points in comparison to the Blossoms' 13. The teams would head to the locker room at half-time with Arkansas-Monticello leading Oklahoma Baptist, 34-32.
The third period was the highest scoring quarter of the game as the two teams saw a combined 39 points. Meanwhile, quarter four was the lowest scoring of the game, with a total of 24 points as the Bison took 18 and the Blossoms saw only six. The game would conclude with a Blossom loss, 69-60.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return home to Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 20 when they host out of state Great American Conference member Southern Nazarene University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m.
