Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Hannah Holdbrook, Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications

Blossoms Fall to #5 Southern Nazarene at Home

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted out of state conference member, and current #5 ranked Southern Nazarene University Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 71-51 loss to the Crimson Storm.

Kelsey Blakemore was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (5-11, 1-9 GAC) with 17 points, going 7-11 on total field goals, 3-3 on threes, and 4-6 on shots from the free throw line. Blakemore was second on the night in rebounds, grabbing two offensive and four defensive on the afternoon, while also contributing three assists and a steal in her 25 minutes.

Alindsey Long followed behind with 15 points on the day. Long hit 6-14 field goals, 1-4 shots from beyond-the-arc, and 2-3 free throws while also giving the Blossoms one offensive and one defensive rebound each on top of two steals.
 
Southern Nazarene (16-0, 10-0 GAC) was led by Hannah Giddey with 21 points and 16 Rebounds.

The first quarter proved to be won by the Blossoms, seeing UAM outscore the undefeated SNU 16 points to 13 in the opening 10 minutes. The Crimson Storm were the first to score, seeing a jumper on their fifth possession, and extending that lead to 4-0 before the Blossoms responded with a Jumper from Long. The period would conclude with a three from Harris to put UAM on top.

Quarter two saw the flip in momentum as the visiting SNU team would outscore UAM 19 points to 10. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello trailing Southern Nazarene, 32-26.

The third 10-minute period was once again won by the visiting team, but saw a fight from the Blossoms. The quarter was the highest scoring of the game with a combined 36 points scored between the two. The Crimson Storm won the battle, increasing their lead after outscoring UAM 20-16.

Quarter four was the lowest scoring period for UAM with the Blossoms posting only nine points throughout its entirety. The game would conclude with a 71-51 loss to SNU.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
