Harris Leads Blossoms to 72-63 Win Over Rival Southern Arkansas

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted conference rival, Southern Arkansas University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms came out with a 72-63 win over the Muleriders.

Bailey Harris was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (6-11, 2-9 GAC) with 26 points, going 12-21 on total field goals and 2-2 on shots from the free throw line. Harris was tied for second on the night in rebounds, four defensive ones on the evening, while also blocking two shots in her 36 minutes.

Alindsey Long and Kelsey Blakemore followed behind with 12 points each on the day. Long hit 4-10 field goals and 4-7 shots from beyond-the-arc while also giving Arkansas-Monticello one offensive and four defensive rebounds on top of two assists, two steals, and a block. Blakemore was 4-6 on all shots and 4-4 from the line with a team-leading eight steals, four total rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
 
Southern Arkansas (9-8, 4-7 GAC) was led by Addy Tremmie with 18 points.

The first quarter proved to be won by the Blossoms, seeing UAM outscore SAU 21 points to 10 in the opening 10 minutes. Long opened the game for Monticello with a three on their first possession. The advantage was held by UAM for the entirety of the quarter, seeing a high of a 12 points difference.

Quarter two was the lowest scoring period of the game with a combined total of 24. UAM once again outscored SAU, posting 13 points to the Muleriders 11. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello leading Southern Arkansas, 34-21.

The second half saw a bit of a switch in momentum, with the Muleriders outscoring the Blossoms in each of the last two quarters of the game. SAU lead UAM 23-20 in the third and 19-18 in the fourth. Though the visiting team was able to win the second half, the effort would prove not enough as the Blossoms would take the victory.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 20 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
