MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued on with conference play on Thursday when they hosted out-of-state conference member Southern Nazarene University. The Weevils came out with a 71-51 to the Crimson Storm.
Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (7-8, 5-5 GAC) with 20 points, going 9-14 on total field goals, 1-3 from beyond the three point line, and 1-1 from the line. Jackson also contributed two offensive and six defensive rebounds for eight total on top of two steals and an assist in his 40 minutes.
Zane Nelson followed close behind, posting 17 points of his own for the Boll Weevils in Saturday's game. Nelson hit 4-12 total field goals and 9-19 shots from the line while grabbing four rebounds on the evening and having an assist and a steal.
Southern Nazarene was led by
Benno Zecic and
Cam Slaymaker with 15 and 14 points, respectfully.
The Crimson Storm kicked off the first half with a 6-0 lead over the Weevils. A three from
Isaac Jackson put UAM on the board before seeing Southern Nazarene increase their lead to 12-5. With 4:14 remaining on the clock, SNU reached a high of 8 points in the lead over Monticello. As the game slowly approached half time,
Zane Nelson brought the. Boll Weevils within three on a last second three pointer. The teams went to the locker room with UAM trailing, 31-28.
The second half proved to be purely dominated by the home team, with the Weevils outscoring the Crimson Storm 36 points to 21, flipping the momentum of the first half. After tying the match up with 15 minutes remaining, UAM took control for the remainder of the game. The match would come to a close with an 64-52 victory for UAM.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
